To say moving from Whitefish, MT to Los
Angeles, CA was a shock…would be an understatement. Even though I go to school
at the University of Alabama, I am used to a small town feel with no traffic
(ha). And while I miss the mountains and lakes in Montana, and my friends and
football season in Alabama ~Roll Tide~ I can see why there is a famous song
called California Dreamin’.
As part of our school curriculum for
fashion retail, we are required to partake in an off- campus internship the
fall of our senior year. So for me it was no question that I wanted to go to West
Coast- and btw it’s true what they say about Los Angeles being the city of angels
and dreamers. So far everyone here is extremely attractive and full of that beachy
carefree vibe that is so appealing. I can see why everyone is eager to establish
a career here...now including me.
Being a fashion retail major seems like a
pretty narrow field - but realistically it’s not. There are tons of
opportunities in many different departments within the fashion industry to
work, and while I am still not sure what area my dream job would be in, I am
off to a good start of finding out.
I am starting my internship working in
the social media/marketing department with Dennaya Famous. I have been working
tons on updating Gypsy05’s Tumblr and Pinterest accounts (so go check them out)
as well as writing product descriptions for new arrivals that are landing soon!
The highlight of my week, however, was helping out with the resort 2016 photo
shoot in Venice. I feel like every girl in fashion dreams about the day when
she can help out with a photo shoot with a real professional model, and even
though we were a three girl squad out of the trunk of my car, it was one of the
best afternoons I’ve had so far in Cali.
So just a couple blocks up from Abbott
Kinney Blvd in Venice, we set up camp for Gyspy05’s resort 2016 shoot on the
street of 5th Ave. The natural look of a cement house with earthy
tones of cream, brown and green provided a classic California backdrop. The setting was nothing short of a
photographers dream – and just what you picture when you think of Venice, Ca. Even
though it was 90 degrees and no air conditioning, the model Lina still managed
to somehow look smoking hot and perfect for the whole 7-hour day.
She rocked the latest pieces from
Gypsy05’s resort collection coming in 2016. All of the products were light and
airy, super comfortable and made out of fabrics that were buttery soft. Since
the pieces are so easy and wearable, you can style them with literally anything. Dennaya chose, however, to style the products
with on trend accessories such as chokers, buckle belts, torn vintage Levi’s and
a straw Lack of Color boater hat (which was my own) to achieve the California
trendsetter vibe we were going for.
One of my tasks was to capture behind the
scenes shots from our shoot. All of the outfits looked so on point that it was
hard to choose the right ones to share, but these are some of my favorites. The
professional product shots turned out even better, I can’t wait for them to hit
the internet soon…so stay tuned!
